Our favourite bars in York

Cave du Cochon

Cave du Cochon is a natural wine bar, just down the road from one of our all time favourite restaurants, Le Cochon Aveugle. It’s a delightful place to savour some quality wines and nibble on some tasty cheeses and charcuterie.  We really love heading here for a pre-theatre or pre-dinner drink. Luckily, they’re open til midnight so you can also pop in afterwards. A perfect choice for wine buffs.

Pairings Wine Bar

28 Castlegate, York YO1 9RP

Located just around the corner from Clifford’s Tower, on the cobbled, Georgian Castlegate, Pairings Wine Bar is one of those places you’ll go back to again and again. Offering a great wine list, tempting cocktails and delicious sharing platters, it’s a place to enjoy the finest with partners, friends and family. Staff are incredibly professional and knowledgeable and the interior is both stylish and comfortable. They offer bespoke tasting events and Pairings can be booked for wedding celebrations. It’s fabulous value for money as well. Our group of 5 enjoyed 2 bottles of wine and 2 sharing platters (each with 5 meats and cheeses served with a selection of crackers, artisan bread, olives, chutney and sweet chilli sauce) all for less than £20 per head. A true hidden gem.
