Cardamom and Dill

New School House Gallery, Peasholme Green, City Centre, York YO1 7PW, +44 (0)7766 656030

Mediterranean £ £

We’re great lovers of mediterranean food and there’s very few places in York who serve it. A recent pop-up, Cardamon and Dill offers flavoursome vegetarian options at the New School House Gallery, tucked away behind Peasholme Green. It really is a hidden gem. The gallery itself is full of character and flair as is the food. I think what we loved the most was the freshness of the dishes on offer. Each week, the theme of the buffet offerings changes, taking you on a culinary journey of perhaps tuscany, provence or the greek isles. On a recent visit, we journeyed to Greece, enjoying spinach, fetta and herb spanakopita, greek salad, stuffed peppers and some toasted flat breads. It’s a lovely place for a light lunch. We loved all the eclectic crockery too.

Located on Goodramgate and just a short walk from the Minster, Goji is a great choice for a casual, relaxed vegetarian/vegan lunch or brunch on the weekend. It’s also a good option for take-away and picnic food to enjoy in the near by Deans Park next to York Minster. We particularly liked the middle Eastern platter.

A fairly new addition to the thriving Micklegate area of York, Partisan is a cafe, art space and furniture salesroom all in one. It’s a relaxed and vibrant place serving truly fabulous all day breakfasts. We are more than partial to their Persian and Mexican eggs. It’s a place that celebrates food from all corners of the globe and does it with flair and most importantly flavour.
